I'd refuse the birds when they show up, talk to the credit card people and cancel payment until this is resolved with McMurray. In the words of the1much " let them all smell that on their way back"

In our state you can't call directly to the po anymore, you have to go through a 800#. There have been a few times when no mail has been delivered on our road. It's not bad when it is mixed up with the neighbors, you can sort it out pretty quickly. A few call to the 800# seems to have straighten it out. I have a po box in another town that is more reliable then ours. All my important mail goes to the po box. I don't even put out going mail in the mail box.

I have never [touch wood] have this happen but I know my day is coming. It's a risk for sure with shipping, but honestly how could either the PO or the Hatchery ever let birds go without a tracing number?!? That is required here in Canada, all my packages have the tracing label on them and have to get scanned all along the way. At first I wondered if that was such a good idea, if it delayed the birds or if it caused more handling trauma to them but I think in the end it's just better.

It has happened before that someone has taken them home and brooded them so don't loose hope, but if not I'm just so sorry.

I am wondering if they are already sitting in someones brooder between your house and McMurrays.

I hope not, but you never know in this day and age. I would almost rather see that happen though, than have them all die in a box somewhere.

Hopefully all will be resolved Monday mornng. Keep us updated please.

If I was in this situation, I would go to the PO to pick them up when they come, and open the box right there on the counter, and if they are dead, let them sleep with that horrible picture in their head.

My question now is this......Since the lady that MissP talked with seemed to be untouched at al about the situation at hand, then is she (the lady at McMurray) even sure that the birds were even sent?

This could be a possibility. Actually, I hope that this is what has happened. Just call Monday and ask them when will your order of chicks be sent. Maybe they put you down for the wrong week and the lady just assumed that they went out earlier this week.

Just a positive thought.

P.S.~~but if they do arrive, I would take a camera, open the box, take a picture and any that may still be alive that could possibly be saved, and then return to sender and ask for a refund, NO CREDIT, a full refund and plus the chicks you ordered.
