I have mites.... Help!!!

Okay guys! I'm avoiding the DE. I don't want to risk respiratory issues when they're already stressed from the heat.

I hope TSC is still open after I get off work. If not I guess a weekend trip is in order!

So for the concentrate... Do I need a special sprayer?? Because I'm going to go straight for the nuclear warhead here lol. Also, I assume it has to be diluted in some way?

Mixing instructions are on the bottle of spray. As Kiki posted there are premixed spray bottles.
I used a spray bottle (sold in lots of places as empty bottles for cleaning sprays).
An adjustable tip is very helpful for getting those nooks and crannies.

Edited because autocorrect drinks WAY to much and cannot spell.

Hi! Sorry you have mites!!! You are getting some awesome advice--the people here definitly know what they are talking about. I had what I THOUGHT was a chicken mite issue last week (turned out to be another issue!) but I got some amazing advice from many BYC members (some of whom posted to your thread). Im new to BYC so I dont know how to send you the link to my thread. Maybe you can find it by my profile name? It was Mite Infestation in Bathroom--How to Eradicate and Treat. I hope my thread helps you, its got some great info on how to ID mites and how to deal with them effectively and safely! Best of luck...you WILL totally reign supreme over these little buggers!!!!!

Here ya go. ;)

I use a gallon sprayer but I have a dozen coops. I use the one with the wand so I can reach better and get the spray into the cracks and crevices in the coop where the mites like to hide. Similar to this. The sprayers are around $10. You can pay more but I'm cheap and it has worked for me. The permethrin spray will loose it's effectiveness if not used pretty quickly so I would only mix what you're planning on using. One gallon will spray all of my coops but right now I'm doing it weekly.

I use the Scotts sprayer because I like the nozzle on the wand.

Oh wow thank you guys so much for the help! I'm happy to hear about the bath option on your thread Maine_chic. I want to de-mite them ASAP so I may do that for now. It's so danged hot outside I won't worry about them being too cold. They'd probably appreciate it tbh.

If you do a bath for them do NOT go with cold water. You can temperature shock them that way.
Go with baby bath warmth.

I never thought to use permethrin to bathe my birds but last year when I found a coop that was infested, I used flea soap on the birds that were in that coop. It did help some but didn't get rid of all of the mites. This is how I do it when bathing the birds prior to a show. I guess you would put the permethrin in the first tub and then rinse water in the other two tubs. The last tub would be a final rinse.

Then I wrap them in a towel like a burrito to dry them off some and also I can deal with their heads and feet when getting them ready to show but the same principle can apply.
