I never thought to use permethrin to bathe my birds but last year when I found a coop that was infested, I used flea soap on the birds that were in that coop. It did help some but didn't get rid of all of the mites. This is how I do it when bathing the birds prior to a show. I guess you would put the permethrin in the first tub and then rinse water in the other two tubs. The last tub would be a final rinse.

Then I wrap them in a towel like a burrito to dry them off some and also I can deal with their heads and feet when getting them ready to show but the same principle can apply.

Ooooooh that's terrific! NEVER would have occurred to me! I don't think you'd want to rinse the permethrin off, but oooh that's a great setup anyway. I was thinking of using one of those large rubber totes from TSC, but your setup looks nicer to the chickens.
