I have no idea what I am doing

If you have the option, how could you not stay home? (mental health day? 'family' leave?);)

I took a weeks 'maternity' leave when I picked up my chicks from the hatchery....
I just figured if today is that day that would be fine but if it could be tomorrow they would not understand two days for a duck egg. They are not like us animal lovers. If it hatches I will probably bring it with me tomorrow just to be able to keep an eye on it for the first day to make sure its eating and drinking regularly. Its seems to like the car. We have even been to the Poconos last weekend. Four hours each way. Nowhere to plug the heating pad in the car so guess who drove with a duck egg down his pants. How is that for parenting skills

whatever you do, do not assist the baby out of the shell. don't even break some shell away.
some birds take a long time to come out.

I have heard of people using an electric frying pan for the heat. but if your heating pad is working now, I would stick with it.

........jiminwisc.....

Very few things as amazing and inspiring as a kind man actually incubating an orphan duck egg. And to think you have done this with an auto-shut off heating bad that won't let you sleep more than 2 hours at a time...over 10 days...carrying it with you everywhere!!! You will be voted into the Duck Hall of Fame for sure:D

BTW I've heard of women successfully incubating chicks in their bra!

that's some dedication!

my concern now is humidity. i am a hands-on person, but you have pushed that to quite an extreme haha! I'm honestly surprised that it has survived all that moving around, transporting, temp and humidity fluctuations.
