I have no idea what I am doing

thank god you are there. Thank you. It just looks like there is so much open empty space and its wiggling around trying to get out. I know I just need to walk away from it. this is so hard to do

It's ok, the first time is always nerve wracking... :)

It will spin before trying to get out, zipping the shell around the air cell... if it was really stuck, it would just keep punching a bigger and bigger hole in the same spot...

i am uploading a photo right now for you to see just give me a sec
I am not sure that you can tell from the picture but the membrane is still nice and white and very much like paper its very dry but then again it is in the air sac space. I should not open that just leave it as is or would that help the chick breathe of I opened it?

my other question is what to do if it hatches. Right now there is no real defined space for the chick to dry in and fluff, its just a towel over a heating pad. I purchased a 10 gallon tank and a heating lamp this afternoon. Should I transfer it to that or does it still need the humidity for a while after hatch?

Just leave it... that's a good, healthy white membrane... just keep an eye on it turning brownish and 'crispy' feeling... and even though it might not look like it, the egg tooth pierces the membrane when it punched the pip, it's getting air...

Set up the tank and lamp now, so it's ready as soon as it hatches... but be very careful, glass tanks get really hot very easy, aim the lamp for just one end and test the temp, adjust the lamp accordingly...

Once hatched, it can go right into the brooder... no need for humidity... also, a small dish with marbles in it, or clean smooth pebbles, for water...

going to do that right now, thank you again.

Steve we had a similar experience with a chick that we hatched in a shoe box in my sons room under his desk lamp after it had been abandoned. As hard as it is you just need to let it do its thing!
Our chick took about 24 hours from first pip to unzip. We left it alone until it dried (just under the desk lamp). I'm no expert but it is amazing to watch them just go by instinct and do their thing

Thank you for the advice.. If it were not for all of the help I have received in this post as well as the various posts I read through in the last week I surely would have jumped the gun and killed this baby by moving too quickly
