I have one chicken and I am adding another chicken to the mix. Can I add it right away?

They should be fine. The problem occurs when a much smaller chicken is introduced, as it will be unable to 'stand up' to the larger bird. There probably will be some preliminary squabbles until they establish a mutually accepted pecking order. But unless it continues an inordinate amount of time or gets out of hand (injury) I wouldn't worry about it. Just keep an eye on them for the first few days. Chickens are social creatures.

Hmm, that's weird, when this thread first displayed there were only 4 posts?

Use a look no touch method for a few days...Unless you practise Bio-security on your property? Contamination will happen...Anyways.....Put the new hen in a look no touch pen for a couple of days...Then let her go...A few fights will happen...Pecking order will need to work its self out!

They will be okay...

Cheers!

The biggest concern I would have is they should be quarantined to prevent illness, worms, etc. being transmitted from bird to bird. Can you verify that the new bird is completely healthy?

HELP please! My Easter Egger is about 5 months old and after being plucked on her back and raw hup I had to take her out and put her inside away from the flock. Now none of them want to be her friend! I would like to get another chick her age.. she's really tall... has really long legs btw. I was thinking a Buff Orpington because they're easy going and sweet. I need help on which breed please!!!
