You can still use these for you breeding stock but I would definitely try bringing in some new blood via a rooster from another breeder so you don't get the problem carrying on in future generations

Dispose of those chicks and the egg shells as you would a biohazzard. Your e-Bay lady may have a flock that carries lymphoid leucosis and those chicks could be a result of vertical transmission of the virus.

I have had some strange things happen with shipped eggs too.... problem is when buying just eggs is you really have no idea what sort of state the parent birds are in.... and some people will do anything to not let you know.

If you choose not to go this route, it's okay. Just be thankful these chicks didn't survive to infect your flock.

No, I didn't photograph any of the dead chicks that didn't hatch. They had died at all stages of embryo development, from very early to fully developed. Tumors are the main thing that kills from this virus.

I can't say. It's possible some virus particles were still alive on the egg shells and could have contaminated the other eggs. It would be a long shot. I don't think it's a high likelihood, though.

I just had a small hatch yesterday but 3 eggs didn’t hatch. Those eggs I could see had movement in them yet no noise, witch is odd because as we all know when a chick is about to hatch you hear peeping. I waited till the next day and opened them since I thought woah I have to save them if I can by opening them slowly to check on the chicks. To my surprise I saw something I’ve never seen before and my anxiety went through the roof these 3 chicks were deformed and their brains were out. One barley had a head, how sad and scary I didn’t know what to do then. Does anyone know anything about this or the reasons this could’ve happened ? These were supposed to be a breeding flock I wanted to start of marans. Could this be due to too much inbreeding ? If so I’d rather not keep them for breeding to avoid this from happening again. Please if anyone has any info on this let me know. Thank you
