I have to talk POLISH!

I won't get to keep many, there are for sale in our store.  I keep thinking of banding a few polish for myself though. 

Mixed Polish (mine, all mine, LOL!)
Welsummer
Barred Rock
Lt. Brahma
Jersey Giants
and Cuckoo Marans

We have fox lurking around during the day too lately.  All birds are on lockdown for now. 

While my polish get the most attention at my little farm, the cuckoo marans are hands down the best all around birds

I've never had any of the other breeds, but I like different looking, generally friendly, and roos that are not only good breeders, but know how and when to protect the girls..

Dogs came back, no one looked worse for the wear so assuming she out smarted them somewhere..these wanna be free rangers are going in the coop tonight..don't care if I have to pluck their butts outta trees myself

LOL! I've had to do that, and my tree climbing skills are a tad rusty. Glad your birds are safe!

I hope so. You'd hate to have the fox thinking they just found a buffet.

I swear, any other night that I've moved them to the coop after dark they've been quiet and cooperated nicely. .
Tonight, they did roost sort of low (on the side of a box stall).. but of course as soon as I touched the first hen they all started screaming.."I'm here, come and eat me.."
Sometimes their brain size really shows..lol

When do polish cockerels start getting their combs? Mine is about 5 weeks and still has no sign of a comb. Does this mean pullet? I hope so.

It's been a while, so can't remember an exact age..but I know my roo was very obviously a roo pretty young..he was way bigger than the girls and very dominant. .he was a late cower tho and I think his crest outgrew his comb and he had so many other roo traits that I never had to go by his comb

My polish chick is dominant, and a busy body, but not aggressive. Sort of strikes me as a pullet but I'm not sure. It's not any bigger than my silkie of the same age, though, which might mean the silkie is my cockerel.
