I have 3 sisters, BL's, and they were spazzy until they started squatting (5months?) They've been my favs for 4 years. They are very sweet. They've been in hiding in the bushes from the bullies for a long time.. Now they have their own pen and are enjoying treats and not being chased. They're fine with being picked up. No flapping or screaming.
Then, I have 2 purebred mixes. One I can't get close to. She wil not come near anyone. Then there's her sister , LOLA. She wants to be a house chicken. She was never timid. She will jump up on you if she gets the chance. If you smile, she will peck your teeth! She is an in-your-face chicken. She's one of those that no one picks on and she doesn't pick on anyone either.
I am currently growing her a man, he's a month old. He's a spaz, but he wants to be out with me. All he had was me for the first 10 days, then I got him a few chicks to grow up with.
I think they get calmer as they get older. And trimming their bangs helps with the spazzing. Spazzing-by the time they see you, you are really really close.
I had two roos a few years ago. They were both wonderful, and I could pick either one up and they didn't mind. We loved them. Unfortunately, they both died at separate times and non related deaths.
