Thanks so much for the feedback. It did seem like there was a bit of beard on Thing 1 and Thing 2, but I wasn't sure if that's fuzz coming in after it being pulled out or if it was legitimate beards. This breed is brand new to me, and I think they're a lot of fun.

Hey Sphinx! Mine are bearded as well, look just like yours.....bearded are tough because the wattles do not give them away. My other Polish roo crowed at 12 weeks, so just hope it goes as long as possible These are really hard to tell! Also watch really close up in their feathers along their comb, pink shows through but you have to really look close, it is buried up in there when it first starts.
Mine was born 3/12 for reference on the crest---looked just like yours as it was growing, with the mohawky look. Now it is nice and poofy.

Spinyx as far as i remember they could be laying but there is a thread for guinea fowl so why don't you ask there. All I can say is that Polish lay white eggs and yours are light buff and are the color and shape of guinea fowl. ???????

Hey, I'm hoping you guys could help me. I posted in the What Breed/Gender thread and haven't gotten much response.

My local feed store gave me a couple of polish chicks. They were picked on by the other chicks, and so they separated them out (in fact, the employee told me she took them home for a few days to nurse them back), but they're still a bit ragged. They think they are around 10 weeks old.

They are large fowl, and I'm thinking they're probably poorly laced Golden Polish. I'm also thinking they're both pullets, (I don't see any sign of wattles) but these guys are the first polish I've ever seen in real life, so I am totally lacking in experience. I'd love to hear your opinions. They are really quite ragged still, from the looks of it, almost half of their topknot/crests have been plucked out. It's coming back in, but they both still look pretty ragged.



This gives an idea of just how picked on these poor little guys were, but they're healing nicely.

they are not necerly poorly laced the laceing should get better as they get older that is how it was with my silver laced polish.

Miohippus, thanks for the encouragement! Since these guys are just for fun, I'll be happy either way. However, I do love love love the beautiful lacing, so if they end up filling in nicely, it'll be a pleasant surprise. A lot of the back feathers on one were picked off, and were coming back in, and those feathers did seem to be more nicely laced.

I have some wyandotte chickens, and they sometimes do look like awful lacing for a while, and then fill in beautifully.

I had to let you know I found her in the nest laying an egg! By the time I found the camera she was coming out cackling!

BTW the silver below her is the only other one laying.

Hi everyone, am hoping you can help provide opinions on the sex of our wc black chick. The first set of pics are the wc blue who started crowing recently. In the last week..he has developed wattles and greets me everyday with a cute crow. The second set of pics are the black, who is a sibling to the blue. These chicks were hatched in Mother's Day.
