So I have really been wanting to get a pig I can raise up and fatten for a few months and butcher before spring. I have 2 freezers loaded down with chicken, duck, and turkey..Now I'm going to be able to add Bacon, Sausage, Pork Chops, Pork Ribs, Pork Roast, The list goes on and on! I CANT WAIT! I LOVE Self sufficiency! I would say she is in the neighborhood of 3 months old. I won her for $15.00! I think the people at the auction pretty much think If I want it, I will get it and stop bidding, lucky for me, there was no reserve on this particular set of hogs. I grew up on a farm and my dad was an avid Hog hunter, so butchering hog is no new revelation to me. But this is my first one that I have gotton on my own farm as an adult. Im excited!

Well, good luck to you! You know this already, but you'll love the taste of freshly-butchered meat (as opposed to store-bought).

Let us know how it goes.

Congrats!!!
I have three that are almost ready to butcher. At last check, they were around 206 lbs.
Keep us posted!!

How big do you let yours get before you process them?

This is the first ones we've processed. The plan is 225 - 250.

wow definitely keep us posted. My husband is biting at the bits to get a pig. Mayberry Saint offered to help him out with some labor and knowledge. My husband doesn't know anything about pigs other than they eat slop and make bacon

And how long did it take you to feed them out to that point?
