Now THAT's funny!!!!

Go-veggie, I can sympathize with you completely! Imagine my surprise when I came on this forum expecting to learn and share about raising chickens and found that people were raising them for PETS!

Not to eat, not for eggs, but for pets!?? Not farmers or homesteaders or even country folk.... I was amazed at this trend! The first time I read a post about chicken diapers and saddles I laughed out loud! Now, I like chickens and I think they are funny and quirky, but, historically, they were and are raised for meat and eggs.

There are a whole segment of us poultry raisin' folks who never dreamed of all that frou-frou stuff, have raised chickens for generations without mistreating our food, and are quite proud of being able to dispatch the animals with a quick and painless method. There are some on here who weren't raised this way and would like to learn. Everything you learn is pretty trial and error the first time, so they need to share this and find out what they did wrong.

Just keep in mind, for every one of you, there is one of us, just keeping it real and providing healthy food for our families. We don't enjoy killing anymore than the next fellow, but death is a fact of life for us all, man and animal. Doing it well is another way of caring for our animals as they provide us sustenance. It doesn't mean we are grisly or uncaring at all....as a matter of fact, I have cringed often at posts by folks who "don't have the heart" to kill, or cull, a sick or dying bird. I applaud the people raising chickens in order to be more self-sufficient and to feed their families healthier food!

LOL. Me too! I never knew that people put clothes on their chickens and let them live in the house, especially if they weren't sick or young.

Then the Chariot racing really threw me for a loop! That was hilarious! I love it when he posts pictures about Lucky. Then the pictures of the harnessed chicken flying a kite!

Love it. I love this group, chicken murderers and veggie/vegans alike!

It seems to me (and this is speaking as a carnivore with a batch of meat chicks ordered for next month)...

...since we KNOW there are people who are upset by graphic descriptions/photos,

and since we KNOW that the site has the unfortunate quirk of not showing category headings (e.g. "Meat Birds ETC", "Everything Else Chicken", etc) for the "Most Recent Posts" listed at the bottom of the index screen,

and since we KNOW that many (possibly most) BYCers find Most Recent Posts to be handy and often use it,

...that it would be polite and responsible to put a suitable warning in our subject lines. It doesn't hurt anyone, it's not like it costs money or effort, and it just seems to me to be the 'neighborly' sort of thing to do.

JMHO,

Pat

Nicely put, Beekissed.

* Oh, of course, there are. My own yard has 2 cats, a possum, several ex-pesky rats, a couple gerbils, and numerous fish in "quiet repose". Heck, if they'd allow it, I wouldn't mind being buried in my own yard. Well, technically, I guess-- I wouldn't CARE if they'd allow me to be buried in my own yard.

Just had to say that I didn't even know there was a "most recent posts" area, let alone that it doesn't show the category. I just assumed that if I posted something in a particular section, that everyone knows it pertains to that section.
