I just set eggs this morning 3-13-12 Has anyone else?

I need some "chicken friends" as all my friends think I am nuts as all I can talk about is my new incubator...my new chick....my new brooder box....etc....:) Oh, well. I figure I could be doing a lot worse things:)

Thats why BYC is so great. So many wonderful people on here who just "get it" when it comes to our bird obsession. My FB friends don't quite understand the obsession, neither does my family.
Where is Deering NH? I'm in MA. After going to VT last week, my husband now wants to move there! I want some acreage!!!

its a funny thing you either get it or you dont. I've loved raising poultry my whole life. Wife thinks i'm nuts. She even refuses to eat the fresh eggs we get. She says "doesnt something have to be done to the eggs before we eat them? i said "ummm wash them maybe". Lol city girl

I have to admit, I had a hard time eating fresh eggs too. My kids kept bringing them home from our neighbors house, and wanting me to cook them. When I saw those orange yolks, I about gagged. I thought they were rotten. Boy have things changed since our accidental hatch, and new found chicken obsession. After watching YouTube videos on battery chickens, I'll never buy a store bought again.

i set 10 of my mixed hatching eggs in on the 13th

I'm in a dilemma. For the past 11 years I've hosted an Easter Brunch and Egg Hunt, and some of our out of town guest will be staying with us for the week. My spare bathtub is usually my brooder, but now I'll have to figure out a new place.

We have a rabbit cage as a brooder, but since I'm now an addict....I picked up a large plastic tote and use that as a second brooder. It was only $12, and we cut part of the top out of it and attached a lamp and some hardware cloth.

It was cheap and easy.

I am getting my brooder ready too... I have a small one for the first two weeks and then move them to a bigger one. It is so exciting. This has been the longest two and a half weeks of my life

. I always thought I was a patient person, but now I know different:)

I bought a new Brinsea brooder. Does anyone else use one of those?

Good luck everyone. Keep me posted as they hatch.

Alice
