We have penicillin and sterile syringes. We have heard differing opinions on to lance or not to lance. Before or after antibiotics?? HELP HELP HELP!!!

Terramycin may not be strong enough. Penicillin or something along those lines is called for if you administer an antibiotic. She definitely has bumblefoot, poor girl. Spotted Crow gave you a good link. I have fought this for over a year with one hen and probably seven others have had it as well. The original cause is gone but I apparently have alot of staff in my soil here and they climb on woodpiles and glass keeps perking to the top of the soil from old burn piles from the former owners and they scrape their feet over again and get reinfected. It's a long fight, sometimes.

Okay, and now, as if I don't feel totally incompetant enough, I think we may have gotton some liquid into her lungs. She has slimey stuff coming out of her mouth and she kind of keeps it half open. We covered her in DE for her mites that I just found when I was giving her a shot of penicillin. I gave her .2 mls as I think she weighs about two pounds and it says 300,000u/ml and you are supposed to give 3000u per pound of wt. Hopefully my math was right.

Her breathing is still extremely labored and still totally unable to hold head up or open eyes. I'm wondering if I should go get some tea tree oil, but I think the stress of having her feet lanced would finish her. Or maybe it is her only hope to get some of the infection out???? PLease, please, someone give advice. I just don't know what to do here!!!

Jean, treat her other problems before you do any surgery on the bumblefoot. Do the penicillin injections, and you can soak her feet in saline water once or twice a day, but don't stress her by cutting into her feet right now. She has too many other issues at the moment, IMO. Her immune system has been compromised and she is malnourished and she needs to get her strength back. Worming and penicillin treatment is all she can handle, I think. You're doing so well, but this will take time since it took awhile for her to get in this condition. Don't put tea tree or kerosene or anything on her right now except you could soak her feet in saline, then put antibiotic ointment and wrap a bandage around the worst foot pad.
