Cocci Alert!!! Butterscotch has mucousy bloody poop. How do you treat Cocci if that is what it sounds like to you???? She seems healthy otherwise. We put medicated chick starter in with her and took Tira out (not specifically because of the cocci threat but because she was being pecked). So what now????

I have Tira back in a dog kennel in the family room and she did take a nibble of egg yolk and finally drinking after all day of not drinking. I think the move and the new chicken was way too much for her. We did get the worm med into her. So maybe she needs some more solitude to recoup.

So now I have two sick chickens in two separate areas that were supposed to be buddies and help each other. Maybe when they are both feeling better they will play nice. But B. was just pecking Tiras back over and over again and you could just hear her beak hit the bone and Tira just sat there with her eyes half closed and didnt' do anything. It was enough to make your heart break. So I took her out.

Get sulmet or amprol and treat the drinking water. Will take about 3 days if it is cocci. Sounds like it if it is bloody.

I've had luck with mashed squash and I thought that was good as the water content in squash is high. And slightly cooked hamburger, wet catfood, tomatoes.
i'd be worried about giving her too much medicine at one time - like, I would only treat for Cocci now and wait for the worming until she's improving. Also, can't blood in poop be from things other than cocci?
Also, if you think she may still be laying, i don't think Sulmet is recommended.

If these were dropped off at the feedstore, regardless if we believe that, maybe it's worth asking whom they got the hens from and if they're aware of what health issues there are.

Yes, worm damage can cause blood in the poop, so you would treat for one and then the other, not both at the same time.

Well B. has the blood and Tira has the worms. And since they are separated, they are being treated separately. I swear, B had about 3 normal stool when we got home and then it went to mucousy and bloody. The chicks who were in there last did not have cocci and we disinfected it very well with bleach after they left and this morning before we put them in. Anyway, she has sulmet in her water and Tira is in the house and she was wormed today. She did drink just a small amount when I got her inside and she took one microscopic nibble of egg yolk. How long does it take for Nemex the worm med to work. If worms was one of her big problems, should we see improvement in her stool today or tomorrow??
