My Mum would agree with you... And my friends said the same thing about her... They all called her Mum and would do just about anything to receive her approval, attention and ear for listening to whatever was going on.
Although I do not have any kids, I do have a young 20-something who has adopted me as her second Mum since she was 17 or 18.
Although I do not consider myself to have any parenting skills what so ever, I do listen to her when she is having a tough go of things.
My friend and her Mum talk, but I think she wants someone elses opinion on things when she thinks her Mum is off base on a subject. I have yet come across a situation that I haven't disagreed with what her Mum has told her and basically tell her the same thing, but maybe in a different way.
It's all about trust and understanding... One thing to mention, my friend and I do have an understanding though... I won't tell her Mum about things we discuss as long as it does not mean her harming herself or someone else or doing anything dangerous. So far, I've only had to do it once and her Mum was glad that I told her what happened, but made my friend figure out the solution and then she had to tell her Mum.
I'm just so greatful that she has someone else to turn to and I'm happy to be there for her ... Not like a Mum, but more like a big sister.
