ok now its almost 1 in the afternoon and still nothing more. just the one pip. it keeps rocking but its not zipping and no more pips yet. ugggghhhhhh anticipation is driving me nuts...hahahaha
I'm on day 21. 1st time hatching. Lots of movement yesterday, but nothing noted today. No pips or any signs of anything today. When should I be nervous?
The anticipation was just killing me so I laid down for a nap at 4 this afternoon....hahahaha so much for a nap...I woke up it was 10 30 p.m. And I found the pip had zipped!!!!! Here is the zip.
Then at 11 p.m we finally had hatch!!! YEAH!!!!!!
Still 5 more eggs to go and only 1 other pip so far but 4 are rocking also.
It was sooooo funny, he/she came out butt first. He/she is drying out and starting to fluff a bit. Absolutely perfect. No problems with legs or wings or eyes or beak that I can see. I cant wait til its dried out and I can move it to its new home, (box in the bathroom under the warmer).
Yay!!! I have six that hatched over night and two more pips. The eggs I marked as ? have not done anything yet. So far this ancient redwood bator appears to have it all going in the right direction
It does not look promising for the 2nd chicky. I am not going to post pics of it right now. Last night the 1st chicky fell through to the bottom of the bator. I had to open the bator and completely dismantle it to get him off out. Well, one of the eggs, omg, I accidently dropped it. It crushed the shell on the air cell end. That was at midnight last night. I could see the peep moving so I got a pair of tweezers and opened a hole for him to be able to breathe. As of 7 this morning still nothing from him other then the membrane drying out and shrinking around the chick. Finally my hubby started trying to help the poor chick out of the rest of the shell and membrane. It bled a whole lot. We got the top half off of him completely and put him back in the bator. It took him about 2 hours to just find enough strength to push the lower half of the shell from his rear end. He is just laying there breathing real heavy and does some chirping and squirming around. But he does not seem to be able to lift its head for very long nor is it attempting to stand up. Its umbillical cord is still connected to the lower half of the shell but there is no yolk present. I do not think he will make it, but I am going to leave him in the bator until he either makes it or breaks it. I want to give it every chance to survive.
We still have 4 more eggs that should be hatching today. No pips yet. This has just upset me so much to see this little tiny creature of God's so helpless and nothing more I can do for it. Any one have any suggestions as to what more I can do for it?
Oh something else, as he is drying out, he is not fluffing up like the other one did. Does anyone know why???
for little chick. He's a sticky chick. When he's up and about take an old but clean toothbrush and gently brush the glue off him and he will fluff. If it's still not coming off good dampen the brush just a little and it will come out.
If he gets to the point where he wants to stand but can't get his head up good enough try a neck massage it worked wonders for one of our chicks that had to be helped. His neck was bent too long and the muscle was weak.
With our 9 hour power outage a little over a week ago I had no choice but help some out of the shell they were dieing in it but some did great and others were by that time too weak to make it.I gave them all the same chance but you can't make them live.
Don't beat your self up for it.He may not have been quite ready to come out or maybe something you can't see and he wouldn't have come out on his own anyway.
I have one pip so far but I always start mine at night so they are really not due yet...but they need to hurry up
