I'm sure I'm not the only one who finds that quote offensive. Maybe your focus should be on caring for your own chickens...
I dispatch of pest species predators (raccoons and opposum) and our land is a wildlife "sanctuary" for deer, wild turkey, squirrell, rabbits, songbirds and many other species including raptors whose habitats and food source are threatened by overpopulation of raccoons and opossum.
Feel free to check my BYC page for pictures.
I "employ" a few good mousing cats to keep the small rodent population at bay near the house and I dispatch of the nuisance animals that my cats are not capable of controlling, that in my area, have very few natural predators.
Proper wildlife management is impossible without selective hunting. That's the entire basis that our states' DNRs are founded upon. They are the experts entrusted to the protection of our wildlife species. I do always advocate that everyone comply with their particular state's DNR rules.
Whether we choose to believe it or not, hunters are critical to successful wildlife management.
Ditto. Bluey you are absolutely positively correct.
I wish the "save the wildlife" lovers would stop raising chickens if the predators are more important to them.
Hunting is VITAL to the ecology and maintaining healthy strong herds and the species future.
If you do not believe in dispatching a predator...stay out of the predator section and/or stop posting your disdain and disagreement with killing predators. The liklihood of your posting changing our minds about killing the predators is well....ZERO. Also read the rules at the beginning of this forum!
Guys I hope she got the message and is chilling, sometimes young folk get overwhelmed by their emotions and forget their manners. She came back at me pretty hard but I am willing to forgive. I just hope her and others would remember if this is a upsetting topic it is best to avoid it.
The OP did the right thing to protect her flock and I have a lot of respect for a lady who can fend for herself and her pets and family. I love wildlife as much as anybody, but there would be no balance if one predator goes unchecked. There is a predator for every predator, and sometimes that is us.
