I have 4 pullets right now, they're good birds with no sense of personal space.
What other breeds did the breeder have? The sussex chick either isn't pure or not a speckled sussex, but a cutie.

I'm not fussed if they're not pure but I wonder what they'll be if they are not!

I don't know what other breeds this one had because the breeder I got them from got them from his breeder friend. But they swap fertile eggs with each other so they don't have to keep double the amount of breeds each, does that make sense. Not sure I've explained that 😅 I know the buff Orp eggs came from the same breeder but other than that I don't know.

I'm fascinated to know what they'll look like. I maybe should message the breeder and ask what else they could be mixed with. I went for buff orps and he only had one left that's how I ended up with these two.

I’ve found out that you can sometimes tell by behavior, it’s worked for me every time… my cockerels have always been more scared of me, so whereas the pullets just run the cockerels throw themselves, the pullets I can hold on their back and they’ll go to sleek but my cockerels NEVER let me do that… I’ve actually gotten it wrong once but after meeting her parents it made sense, she was a very scared little chicken, got euthanized just today actually, but she was also part bantam and I think they have sass. She was very pretty but kind of rude with pecking me when I had to help the silkies roost.

Also with the roosters I also noticed they’re normally the head of the pecking order even as babies, even if it’s just a slight difference from the females

Thank you for your reply and I'm sorry you had to say goodbye to your hen yesterday.

Totally agree, I've noticed the same only thing is nothing stands out with these three. I've always found the first 3-4 weeks the cockerels kill themselves to get away but the pullets are much more orderly but I find as they get older they are the first one to shoulder their way in when I offer them chick crumb on my finger and then practically bite my finger off to get some 😂 the girls are again more orderly approach, slowly checking out what I have and then nibbling before then trying to bite my finger off 😂 these three all the same! Maybe the buff was a little slower but not always.

That’s why I love chickens 😂 they all have such personalities and are so fun. The first one does have a big comb but I’ve had just big combed hens like these two, I thought Crow(the younger one) was a male for a bit even though her personality screamed female but she had such a dark big comb and waddles then Mira I got at 2 years but she comb and waddles are sooo much bigger then any of my hens, Crow was also HUGGGEE compared to my other chicks, but ends up she’s just half lavender 😂

The one with the dark brown arrowhead on it's head looks like a Welsummer pullet. I have 2, and they're pretty chill, until it goes broody. Only one of mine does.

You get broody hens often? I’ve never had one… one of my hens is 3 years and I’ve had her for a year, never got broody the rest are 1yr and under accept for me hen Mira who I adopted at 2yrs but she hasn’t laid any eggs yet.
Hoping my silkies are broody often! If I manage to save this one I think she’ll be a very broody hen, she’s very motherly

What glorious hens, those are some serious wattles and comb though! They are the best though. I have an absolute favourite layer who is just a princess and then chicks have my heart for sure. I'm so worried about them but I'm trying to think positively.

I was told my lavender Brahma likes to go broody, she hasn't yet which is fine because our Roo isn't up to the task yet either but I'm so excited that we might be able to hatch our own chicks! I definitely need more land 🤣🤣
