I lost 9 chicks today without a a trace....

I don't have a clue as to what happened to them. Mamma Hen just had ten new chicks about a week old now. this morning my daughter went to feed them and only noticed one chick. So I went out to investigate...No trace what so ever of any of the other chicks!

I want to know what kind of predator would take so many at one time?!? any ideas would be great.

really.. you think snake? I would think that with that many chicks it would not be able to move!

Could have been a family of coons. They are having babies and looking for food. Where they secure in a pen? So sorry.

I would guess a snake also. A girl at work was raising chicks she hatched and they kept disappearing. She thought at first they were getting out of the pen since they were so small and getting eaten by something out there until she found a six foot snake in her coop!!

Ahhh, yes, as a young chick living in Oklahoma, one of my chores was collecting egg after school. One day I was very late and had to collect the eggs after dark. Guess what I found under a hen with new chicks? A six foot long snake with several lumps in her abdomen. The adult hen was not harmed and sat there as if nothing was happening. I had to empty my panties though....
