Sorry this happened to you !! Being a commercial photographer my livelihood depends on my work so I back up everything on DVD or CD and to an external hard drive. Memory sticks are not cost effective and are not so archival. At work a terabyte hard drive froze and it cost over 24 grand to recover... that taught me something. Your drive can be recovered ..might cost you a little but might be worth it. Good luck !!

Shutterbug couple in my son's class have 6 years worth of school events on their camera. We just talked about what would happen IF this May. I hope she backs it up, soon. I'll tell her what unfortunately happened to you and maybe she will do that backup before it's too late. We'd all bemoan the loss.

If they can't recover your pics, it's time to contact everyone you might have sent pics too ..or websites you might have posted to ... etc.. maybe you'll get some of your memories back.

I just told DH the other day that I really should get my pics OFF the harddrive .. eeeeeek~! Thanks for the added need for urgency ..

They should be able to recover them. My hubby has saved much info from hard drives deemed unsaveable by so called fix it companies....

Limewire is loaded with virus according to the person who fixed my crashed computer. But he didn't charge me extra to save anything because all he did was remove all of the viruses in safe mode. We watched while he did it. Now it works. Boy am I glad I sent that boy to school to learn to fix my computer.

I download all of my pics onto my Photobucket...just in case. I knew my old computer was gonna die and I did this right before it happened. I am so glad I did. I also agree with PC, I have a friend and all he does is fix and rebuild computers. He has never had a problem retrieving my sisters pics, and her computers crash all the time.
I hope you have some luck with this.

I lost everything last year when my son brought home a virus on his jump drive from school! The teacher downloaded a weeks worth of assignments onto all the kids drives and gave every single one of us a nasty virus and spread throughout the district too. I feel for you!

Well. I feel dumb, but because of this thread, I just made a new restore check point. While it wouldn't be the end of the world if something happened, I really don't wanna loose my pictures.

I'm so sorry about your loss. I have had this happen a few times myself. I just never think to back up anything either. I hope they can get the pictures back!
