I Love MONTANA!

Just an update on my flock. I attended the Poultry show in Great Falls in April and met a lot of great folks and saw some great birds too. My plan is to breed both Belgian d'Anvers and Dutch bantams, and to show them. I also keep some free range standard breeds for eggs and insect control on my property.

My flock, my breeding program and my coops/ pens have increased in the past few months. I've hatched 6 Bearded Belgian d'Anvers in Quail and 2 bantam "mutts" in my incubator. They are now 8 weeks old. Lots of trials and tribulations with the incubator. I also have 2 golden laced Wyandottes and 2 partridge rocks that are 9 weeks old.

I acquired a quality breeding trio of Belgian d'Anvers, also in quail, a few months ago. Both the hens from the Belgian trio, are now raising broods. They started with 5 eggs each and hatched out 7 chicks. The chicks were 3 with one hen and 4 with the other. However, yesterday one of the 3 chicks decided to switch pens. I left him there as he seems to do just fine with the other brood. Besides I don't know which one he is. These are the beginnings of my Bearded Belgian d'Anver flock. I hope to show some at the October poultry show in Great Falls.

I have also added a nice LB (Light Brown) Dutch Cockerel and I plan to make him part of my Dutch breeding. I am waiting for some pullets that should be available this fall. I lost my old BLB (Blue Light Brown) Dutch rooster about a month ago.

So my standard flock is now 4 Buff Orpingtons, 2 Partridge Rocks, and 2 Golden Laced Wyandottes. My bantam flock has 7 mixed bantams (my mutts), 15 Bearded Belgian d'Anvers (all quail), and 1 LB Dutch cockerell. I think that's 31 birds.

Hello There!
I'm new to the forum, and new to the world of chickens! I moved to beautiful Montana a little over 2 years ago, and I love it here. Hopefully my chickens will too!

brrrrrrr..... so cold and windy in Montana, Wyoming and Idaho!

Really, I don't think I could live there. The areas are beautiful, but oh so cold. I love southern California. The weather is nice, our coldest is some good frost in the morning. (Which makes for terrific fruit on the trees!) I am close to mountains, the ocean, deserts and wonderful museums of all sorts. I love that I can grow plants year 'round. My daffodils have just about finished blooming, and I am already thinning small fruit from my peach and white nectarine trees. My 25' rose vine is working hard to reach all the way around the front and side of my car port; she's in bloom right now. My yard is fragrant with sweetpeas, purple Iris and citrus in bloom.

Oh, I do love southern California!

Then we don't need you up here . There are too many people moving up here as it is who have bad ideas , and bad attitudes . DON'T MOVE INTO A STATE AND TRY TO CHANGE IT BACK TO WHERE YOU CAME FROM !!!!!! That being said , I love Montana , It's just unfortunate that all of the farm land is being turned into houses . I live in Kalispell......born and raised..........unlike most of the "locals" around here . Not talking bad about all the out of staters........just talking bad about the ones who try to change our point of view , and living . Logging is our way of life and important to our forrest management , and wild life . Not to mention the trees are made into toilet paper to wipe your sorry a$$"s .

My oldest daughter will be going to MSU in Bozeman this fall. She is very excited after our visit last week. She met some folks from the Collegiate 4H group and others to make her feel right at home. She is already thinking about bringing her show rabbits.

I live in Northeastern Washington. We have a small cabin in Troy, not sure of the road, but it has been in my family for ages. We go to alot of the shows in Great Falls and we went to the one in Hamilton last spring. Hamilton is almost addicting, we went for the show and our hotel room faced the snow covered rockies and the front of the hotel faced the prarie, it was great. We took a vacation there, it was fun. We are planning on going to the Hamilton show next month, but ot 100% sure if we can make it. I just love Montana, the people there are all so nice and they make you feel welcome. I would love to move there, but I heard that alot of the people from CA are moving there and making land prices go up.
