I am one of the "self insured" if the world. The doc and my scripts are paid out of pocket. Wish i still had BCBS but I can't afford it.

OTOH, except a year and a half ago I've lived a relatively healthy lifestyle and never needed anything major.

If you think health care is expensive and slow now---wait till it's free!!!!

I've had experience with military version of health care---if you're lucky, you'll get a physician that's callous and indifferent. If you're unlucky you'll get a incompetent malicious SOB that can't be held responsible for his actions.

I think the answer will be in the future, like a science fiction story, automated repair sarcophagus, when computing power and sensors evolve.

So what going on with COBRA? I didnt understand.. are they doing away with COBRA? or what??

I may complain about the National Health Service for long waiting times, no real choice about which doctor you see, etc... But I am so glad it exists. I just wish yu guys had something similar too - it should NEVER be a choice between seeing your doctor or paying the morgage.

access to decent healthcare shouldn't be means-dependent.

Basically the money has been approved but not doled out. So folks won't be able to use COBRA if their unemployed from Monday on.

On other news.. I got a letter from the state last week. Since Michigan has the worst unemployment numbers in the nation (and I've been out of work 14 months now) the state can no longer guarantee that I'll still recieve the benifits I've paid into and never used in the previous 15 years. Their federally promised money for the unemployment hasn't been paid. So monday I have no income besides my savings, my dividends etc. Congress needs to approve special funding in order to get things back on track. Honestly I'm not that worried......

I used to supervise the shipping side of the largest hvac distributer in Michigan doing 800mil in sales, then worked for a food distribution center doing 2 bil in sales........ Can't find a job. Folks are moving out of the state in droves, so even if somebody wanted to open a new manufacturing base here in michigan, who'd want to move back?

You ARE good!!! Love your thoughts on this. I get so bummed out by the shape this country is in, I can't hardly talk about it anymore. I am a realtor, and I see the "we are losing our house" side of it, or take care of houses that are already abandoned because of owners losing thier jobs. Only thing I can say is this country is in a heck of a lot worse shape than what the gov. is leading us to believe. And, this just didn't start . . . this has been coming for about the past 30 years if you listen to some of the economists. We are going to be living in scary times.

Sigh. I completely agree about this country getting scary.
