I made a small second floor for my makeshift brooder

They seem to love it. The older chicks (4-6 weeks) fly up there to hang out and stretch their wings a bit more. Only baby (almost 2 weeks) can’t make it up there yet.

I’d like to move them outside before it gets too much colder, but until baby is feathered enough making the brooder more fun will have to do.

I just use a semi clear tote with wood shavings and a brooder plate in the bottom. Usually top it off with chicken wire, but for this I needed a plank across the first tote and a second upside down tote on top. It has plenty of ventilation too with some holes cut out around the top and a small gap between the two totes.
Nothing fancy but my chicks are loving it.
