I may have been the victim of a mixup! PICS

HHBasket - I've got an Olive Egger pullet for you, but you have to take her cockerel brother off my hands too.

BigDaddy'sGurl :

Thanks, guys. My husband wants us to raise these and see what happens...he thinks we will be happier in the long run too. Dominiques are in high demand in my area, I guess my only personal experience with the one hen I owned of the breed is tainting my feelings on this whole thing. I just regret buying any eggs from this person now. I don't know what I will hatch next and my very young reputation is at stake as I just started selling birds recently...

I can't afford at the moment to order hatching eggs and pay shipping, and this lady was the only person within 100 miles who responded to the ad I placed seeking BR eggs. Oh well...worse things can happen right? I will try to have a more optimistic approach.

I know you are disappointed... and rightly so... BUT just maybe you are supposed to be a Dominique breeder... they sound like wonderful birds.

Good luck in whatever you decide to do!

Who knows...maybe it was "in the cards" for this to happen for a reason...ah well. Spent my morning messing with my new Dominique little ones. They don't like me much yet but they usually don't until about 2 months old as I interact with them as little as possible to that point so I don't get too attached until they are basically out of the danger zone.

I know it's been awhile, but just thought I would update...as some of you may remember, at the time of my mixup I still had eggs in the incubator from the seller who gave me dominique eggs instead of barred plymouth rocks but I thought they were BR until they were a few weeks old and posted this thread. Well, since yesterday my last ever set of "mystery" eggs from this seller have been hatching. I had a horrendous hatch due to temp. fluctuations and ventilation issues, also infertility and early demise, but it looks like I came out with 5 alive but one is weak. Of the live chicks, it looks like I got 3 dominiques and 2 BR. Out of BR eggs.....righhhht....

Sheesh. But the upside is the 5 healthy chicks from the last go around are all thriving, nearly two months old, and all girls. The ones who hatched today seem to be 2 boy dominiques and one girl. Maybe I will get my dominique boy...
