So sorry... I am worrying about that same thing happening with my barred rock chick. I didn't think I would get that attached to chicks either, but they are much more fun than I ever imagined. I started out just thinking about really good eggs for weekend breakfast, and now I have four new pets...

sorry you had to give up your roo. and yeah, the whole no children thing probably plays a part in it. we don't have any children here either, unless friends/family comes visiting. so, we have our chickens and our corgi. and, everytime one dies or we have to put one out before its time, its a little hurt that goes a long way. just like it will be a little sad when the time comes for butchering. but, this is the circle of life and i've already prepared myself for that

I'm sorry for you, and angry about these unfair city ordinances that just seem to me to be suffocatingly overbearing, infringing on individual rights.

Thankfully, I live out beyond the town limits and am not affected, but my small rural town even has these insane no chickens, let alone roosters, allowed PERIOD! (I'd be sorely tempted to break the law and be an anarchist.)

On the bright side, be grateful the law doesn't force you to commit your little roo to freezer camp. I'm happy you'll have visitation rights!
