I need an intervention...

Seriously though, y'all with sexlinks - Is it true that they only lay for a couple of years and then just tap out? That's why I got all BOs and Australorps - in the hopes that they would lay steadily for a few more years instead of like crazy for just a couple of years... Thoughts?

My BSL has been laying ever since she was old enough to lay. She's about 3 years old now.. She lays me an egg every day but one day.

I had to chuckle at how this thread has progressed. If someone just read the title, they might think we would be helpful & keep someone from biting off more than they ccould chew.

Instead, we've formed a group of addicts, enablers, & junkies. I love it! The more the merrier!

Yup, no intervention needed! When we bought our house in the country, it came with an outbuilding that was turned into a chicken coop. Hubby wanted "a couple of chickens," I wanted NONE!!!

Eight years later, we have around 40-ish (afraid to actually count them), mostly Brahmas, and I LOVE EVERY ONE!

Did I mention there are two dozen eggs in the incubator?

Your describing me to a T! I started this whole notion with only wanting 3 hens then I was told I should have 2 laying hens per family member. Well shoot that would be eight. I used restraint and brought home 6: 2 olive eggers ( pretty sure they are pullets) and 4 blrw straight run. Blrw weren't even on my want list but they are so darn pretty. I'm convinced I'll get 4 Roos and am trying hard not to go to the local feed store and pick up some barred rocks, araucana and australorps. Apparently in Ohio you have to buy a minimum of 6... My husband is going to kill me

He won't kill you - I've seen big burly men melt at the site of a brooder full of chicks!
