I absolutely love Orps. I can't say enough good things about them. I have kept them continuously over several years and found them to do quite well in a number of different environments. They did well when we had them down south in a hot, humid environment and they have done well here in a cooler area. They are very adaptable. We have also kept them with various other types of birds and in all sorts of coops/runs and they have always done great. We never have any problems at all with our Orps. They have got to be one of the calmest, most easy going, friendly breeds of chickens.
I think Buff Orpingtons especially are just about as close to the perfect, most ideal chicken you can get (in my opinion, based on what I personally like in chickens of course). Again, I can't say enough good things about them. In addition to having awesome personalities, they lay beautiful large eggs and frequently will go broody. In all the dozens of Orps I have had over the years, I have never had a single bird that wasn't just a delight to have on the farm.
