I NEVER thought I would get so excited....

Add me to this list. I smile with every egg. I have some new layers now and some of them are bantams, so I get all silly with the cute little eggs.

I also have a "rescue" hen who had stopped laying for her former owner - she's been with me for over 3 weeks now. This morning she laid a shell-less egg. I think that's because she didn't get any oyster shell while in quarantine. (Ooops.)

But I still smiled and congratulated her for the effort. (Take THAT, former inadequate owner who fed that hen scratch, nothing else, AND let the hen get scaly leg mites BAD!)

Yes, it's also neat to see the trends. I had a hen that would lay in a pattern 1 0 1 1 0 1 0 1 1 etc. It was pretty funny to see on the spreadsheet. I woudn't have noticed it otherwise.

@Linda - yay for your rescue hen!!

Our first set of chickens were rescue chickens as well... the guy had bought them for his son's 12th birthday a year ago

when the kid realized they weren't as much fun as he thought they would be he was going to have them all killed. But we ended up buying them. We got 3 eggs out of them and then wouldn't you know they went into moult. But now they've finally started laying again!

Almost feels silly to be so excited about it, but I feel like we've saved these chickens lives and now it's paying off.

@Happy Chooks - ha ha! Love the pattern! ha ha! Too funny!
