I opened what I thought was a 100 percent dead egg to see what happened. It wasn't dead.

Oh its awful when stuff like that happens :(

Im so glad your other eggs pipping.
So sorry the one died, it may not have been your fault theres no way to know, but at least it was a lesson learned, though a hard and awful one. Ive done it before too when i was starting to incubate my own last year, you feel so bad when it happens.

I hope your chicks are born healthy with no troubles! You have your brooder all set up? And make sure to post pics when your chickies hatch :)

Brooder is all set up for Tiniest Babies, if they ever get around to hatching. The one I have pipped on the wrong side of the egg. It seems in no hurry to come out. You can see it kind of ... Pant? Except it's beak is closed. Just that kind of motion like the chick is breathing deep. Still no other signs that it's going to come out any time soon. It peeped a while back, though. So cute!

They take along break after pipping and will make you give up al hope, then you will go away for a few minutes and come back to a fully hatched chick. :)
The saying about a watched pot never boiling should be changed to

"a watched egg never hatches" haha

I just found 2 pipped eggs in my incubator a day early!

It died overnight. :(

So sorry! your really having bad luck with this hatch!

Yeah. :( When I saw he died I literally cried. I think maybe he was too early? I opened the egg to see. He was fully formed, but still had a really big yoke. I took a picture and then laid him to rest. I now have three possible ones left.

Well, I just did yhe same thing with an egg that was 2 days late already. Finally decided I had to help it, so i went in through the air hole and he had internally pipped, i added some coconut oil to the membrane, he died a few hours later. He may have already been on his way out who knows...
Have any of your other 3 made it?

Not a peep yet. Their official due date is tomorrow, but at this point I'm not hopeful. Our power went out last night due to weather. I put a blanket over the incubator to keep it warm, and nodded off by accident (thanks, sleeping pills!) I woke up 3 hours later with the incubator screaming that it was very, very hot. I don't remember the exact temp, but it's the Janoel one and it kept flashing "H" at me.

I'm so sorry about your little chick! This month seems rough for everyone's hatching. There must be some bad chicken juju going around or something.

Well you still have hope since its a day early, and for a couple days after...

Yeah i hate it when i have such bad hatches! Usually my incubator does good, 75-85 percent hatch rates.
But
Here we had crazy up and down temps that really affected the inubator this time. My incubator got to 86 one night and then 5 days later it got to 107! And again 4 days before hatch date. And that day i had checked it 2 hours before and it was normal, checked it again, 107! It doesnt have a thermostat, i adjust it with vents. Twice i had to fully remove all vents and put the lid on askew to get the temp down, which of course knocked the humidity down too. Im suprised I had so many hatch actually! I set 65 and hatched 19. Ugh! Thankfully its big enough the eggs on the edges all were ok from the hot times. They are probably all roos too as ive read heat kills more females, cool kills more males.
Oh well. The 19 are thriving now at least.
Heres my favorite from this hatch a blue silkie, so poofy :)
