This is the first time i ordered chicks and i think i may have gone WAY overboard. I have space for 12-16 grown chickens in the coop, and currently have 43 very healthy chicks. I had been planning on a high mortality rate, but now that i've been reading posts, it sounds like when they are cared for diligently, most of them make it into adulthood. Anyone near the Finger Lakes Region/Rochester NY region interested in some free chickens/roosters in a month or so?? Let me know, because when they all grow up, i'm in big trouble as far as space is concerned!! We have a nice variety, including Ameraucana, buff cochin, buff orphington, mottled houdans, polish crested, and silver phoenix.

I'd love them if they could be shipped to Putnam County in NY!

Hi,
I would love to get some. I just lost a lot of my birds and really want to get started again. I live in Chautaqua county. Especially the phoenix and houdans but I'll take anything you have left. They will go to a very good home.

I am just a hop skip and a jump away, near Bath ny. I would be interested in a pair of buff cochins and a trio of polish and a pair of houdans.

or what ever you have left in those kinds after poor Willow gets hers.

I too wouldn't mind a few more chickens. All I have currently are some Cochins.. and all the stores around me haven't been able to order chicks for some reason or another. I really don't want to order a significant amount, so any you have left (no roos though lol.. I already have 2), would be great!

Edited: Oh I live up on Mexico, NY. I have some friends that live in Rochester, so it'd give me a good excuse to go visit!

I will keep this thread updated on their progress/sex. I am so glad i will have options for chicken-loving homes! Thanks everyone!

Just a note so we can see how far away we are from one another, my zip code is 14527, and I'm near Penn Yan NY on Seneca Lake.

Does anyone know how long it will be before i can tell the males from the females? The chicks are growing quickly and in a few days have started to grow wing and tail feathers. I still have 43 healthy little ones and will be running out of space way too soon i'm afraid. When i give away some of the babies, I hope to give some females and some males, but I have to be able to tell the difference first!! We want to keep at least one rooster and a nice variety of pullets, and the rest can go to some of you!!

Christichick - I would love to have a couple of Buff Orp pullets and can come pick them up whenever you need me to. I'm not too far away (Lyons). Not sure about telling boys from girls - I'm just getting started with chickens myself (have 6 3-wk olds) but I'm sure one of the more experienced members could answer that.

Thanks!

I too would like just two or three of the Buff Orpingtons .
I can't have a rooster but if you need to pass along one of the BO as a male, I'll pass him over to my son who can..... I just really want one of the BO's cause they are such good mommy's when they grow up!!!
will pick up when you say , I'm just south of Ithaca.
