Auburnstar walked into camp and raised her head and feathered tail, copper eyes proud, full of bearing. Those lives gave her new vitality and pride along with the responsibilities both Luna and Appletree denied.
"I have made my choice!" she declared. "All cats old enough to catch their own prey, gather here at Highrock!"

And Auburnstar stood up.
"The deputy I have chosen...." pause for effect... "Is Finchstripe."

Finchstripe lifted her chin proudly. "I accept the position of deputy. I will serve the clan and protect it with my life." Her words were clear and honest, like the sun peeking through the clouds on a rainy day.

Nightpaw limped over and watched the ceremony.
