Chick dust, lime, saw dust.... ugh..... hate it all, my allergies are horrendous enough this time of year. I have a sinus infection from Hades and a cold right now (first cold since 1998!) so I really don't want to go out there and move it all around

I got mine from our local pet store for $5.

It's actually used for lizards and things on that line.

The digital one I'm using reads about 13% too high. I was planning on stopping at the pet store in Madison on Monday to get one of those round reptile ones that's a thermometer/hygrometer in one - because the thermometer placement on the Octagon 20 Eco is a bit high (maybe 4 or 5 inches above egg level), and I don't trust my digital gauge.

That's what I have except it's only for the humidity. Works great for me.

Well-I have 2 dozen babies here now and still a few more to go. I'll post pics when I get them.

Has anyone tried using the still air incubator for hatching on lockdown? I want to add more eggs to my bator but dont want a staggered hatch in the same bator.

That's what I use and have pretty good luck. I add an extra sponge under one of the top holes so I can add water for humidity without opening it.
I also use the paper egg cartons but don't put too close to the sponge.
That's how I do my staggered hatches so I don't compromise the other eggs.

Well- down to 23. Had to cull one cuz the intestines were coming out.

I had my FIL do it. He had to do that stuff when he was a kid. So he can handle it. Being my first hatch, I didn't have the heart yet. I will eventually.

Well- It's a beautiful, sunny morning here in central Wisconsin. The 23 babies are all doing well. I had to move tis bunch into the bigger brooder already. Some of them are trying out for the "Packers". They try to run from one side of the tote to the other and jump on the pile of sleeping babies. Not much sleep in going on in there. So they have their new home. Now I just wait until Wednesday to start "lock down" here in my bator. Saturday is the day. Come on babies! you can do it!

I have had chickens for 2 1/2 years now and just got the hatching bug this year. Especially after watching all the BYC'ers postings of their new babies!

So I borrowed a homemade bator from a co-worker. And put in 12 light blue EE eggs and 9 dark brown ones, perhaps from my SLW not sure. Hoping that my EE roo over EE hens will create some more blue egg layers. Our roo was killed bya fox protecting his ladies yesterday

so we are hoping for a new sweet boy from this hatch. WE raised him from a baby and he was nice roo. Rest in Peace Lt Fuzz!

Yesterday was day 7, tried to candle but none of our flashlights are strong enough to give a good look at the eggs. I will head to Lowes for a nice LED one that folks here have recommended. My bator is a homemade plastic cooler. Working like a charm. the temps have remained at 100 degrees and the humidity at 35-40. I am keeping the humidity low until lockdown as the "dry hatch" method seems to work well for a lot of folks on here. Since these are my own eggs I'll be happy with whatever rate of hatch we get.

Good luck everyone with your hatches. Will keep watching for updates!
