I set eggs 2/27/10 ** DUE 3/20th-3/21st** WE"RE HATCHING!!!!

Hooray for me!!!!!!!!!!1 I woke up at 3 AM with the sounds of my quail hatching!!!!!!!!! I have 8 so far, from JJMR794, and they are adorable!! Now, if the chicken eggs fair as well, I will be happy
Also, I woke my DH up at 3 AM also he was not as ecstatic the ol grump

adkchickmama I'm sorry for the loss of your roo.

I would take as many eggs as I could in 2 weeks and pop them babies in the bator. A hen will stay fertile that long so there's a great chance you can get that "grandson" you want out of that bunch.

And jerseygirl1. Congrats on the new babies. It feels wonderful to have them, doesn't it!

Okay- I'm sick & tired of worrying about my home-made incubator's temperature swings. I've put a fan in & it will hold a temp of 99-100 for a bit & then will go wonkie & swing down or up without warning!

I ordered a brinsea octagon 20 last night- I hope it gets here quickly so that I can actually get some sleep. Of my 2/27 set- I have 2 left & one of those- I'm really not sure of.
My 3/5 set I have 4 left that are doing very well.

I set maran eggs that were shipped on 3/10- I can't really tell on those & have only candled them quickly to check on air cells-

Has anyone ever ordered directly from Brinsea? I am going to call them later & ask how long delivery will take.

BTW- congrats on the quail!!!

I ordered my first Octagon 20 Eco directly from them - I think it took somewhere around 4 to 5 days to get to me from the Florida distribution center. Waiting was torturous. I picked up my second today from nutmeg1980 - she's a very lovely person, and the 'bator and auto-turn cradle have only been used once.

And guess what? My Columbian Bantam Cochin eggs arrived this morning!

They were perfectly packaged (I'm going to steal the technique), the box looked pristine - no damage at all! PLUS, the seller packed twice the number of eggs I was expecting! I'm going to get the "new" 'bator set up tonight and set them in the morning!

Edited to add: I also stopped at two different pet stores today and bought two different thermometer/hygrometer sets to compare. They're both made for reptile tanks - I can already tell that I'm probably going to have to take one of them back, the temperature is reading about 6 degrees too high right now and doesn't seem to be changing even though I moved it into a much colder area.

adkchickmama.......I'm so sorry you lost your rooster.

you get a nice son of his.

Jersey........congrats on the quail! My DH would be less excited than yours. Unless there's a fire, you don't wake up my DH.

Good to know Annarie. Yes, waiting usually is torturous anyway for me! And with all of the problems I've had with this home-made incubator- I'm about ready to give up!
I blew the 40w bulb that I was using yesterday- I got water on it while we were quickly trying to refill the water bowls- as I'm having trouble keeping the humidity up....
Just so ya know- water & electricity do not mix.

I had a spare 25w bulb to put it, but the heat output wasn't the same so we have had a low temp day again today...... if I loose these maran eggs that I bought- I'm going to cry.

MY uncle has a foam 'bator that he might let me use.... we'll see if that holds temps better than this one until my octagon 20 comes.

And tomorrow I am headed to another BYC person's to pick up 9 BLRW babies just hatched Friday! I figure since only 3 of the 8 were viable and might not hatch. Waahhhaaaaaa!

I'm buying them for the same price I just sold my 4 for.
