Definitely get the auto-turning cradle! I just picked mine up yesterday and ran it last night to test it out before I set my eggs this morning at 9:30. I don't know how I lived without the cradle before! Manually turning is easy in the Octagon 20 - but who really has the time to turn more than 3 or 5 times a day? The cradle turns it on an hourly cycle. It's very neat, and I want these eggs to hatch so very badly!
I candled my shipped eggs last night while I was setting up the new 'bator and getting everything ready for this morning. Out of 12 eggs (I paid for 6+), I had just 1 broken air cell. The rest look great, I have high hopes for this hatch!
My 4 duck eggs are all chugging right along - they're getting huge, but I can still see them "dancing" around in there! March 30th's the hatch date for the ducklings, April 6th for the shipped Bantam Cochins!
3-5 times a day??? Who has time for that??? Don't other chicken people have JOBS???? Eh, I read to turn two or three times per day, so I turned every morning before work and evening before bed. Guess we'll see how it works out.
Day 19 and I have at least one egg rockin already!!
I have the humidity about 60% and I'm getting a little bit of condensation on the viewing windows. Does that mean that it's too high? Or just that my bedroom is signigicantly cooler than inside the bator??
