Definitely get the auto-turning cradle! I just picked mine up yesterday and ran it last night to test it out before I set my eggs this morning at 9:30. I don't know how I lived without the cradle before! Manually turning is easy in the Octagon 20 - but who really has the time to turn more than 3 or 5 times a day? The cradle turns it on an hourly cycle. It's very neat, and I want these eggs to hatch so very badly!

I candled my shipped eggs last night while I was setting up the new 'bator and getting everything ready for this morning. Out of 12 eggs (I paid for 6+), I had just 1 broken air cell. The rest look great, I have high hopes for this hatch!

My 4 duck eggs are all chugging right along - they're getting huge, but I can still see them "dancing" around in there! March 30th's the hatch date for the ducklings, April 6th for the shipped Bantam Cochins!

3-5 times a day??? Who has time for that??? Don't other chicken people have JOBS???? Eh, I read to turn two or three times per day, so I turned every morning before work and evening before bed. Guess we'll see how it works out.

Day 19 and I have at least one egg rockin already!!

I have the humidity about 60% and I'm getting a little bit of condensation on the viewing windows. Does that mean that it's too high? Or just that my bedroom is signigicantly cooler than inside the bator??

This'l'do :

Lockdown!!! Out of 22 eggs 9 look viable

well I'll guess we'll wait and see!

Go babies! Go babies!

I hear ya! I turned the eggs 3x day. Once in the morning, then my daughter turned when she got home from school, and I turned when I went to bed. I read somewhere that turning them an ODD number of times each day results in the side that goes overnight switched from day-to-day, which is beneficial, so I tried to stick to that.

Rockin at day 19?! Cool. If I put them all in their own little egg carton crate, would I see any rocking? I also have my humidity at about 70% and I'm wondering if that's too high now. Should I open the bator to remove one of the sponges??? I am fretting a lot right now over these eggs!!!

Yep, they should always be turned an odd number of times a day. That way they are not laying the same direction all night, which is usually the longest period they are in one spot. Turning in the begining while the embryo is first starting to form is the most important.

Okay, my eggs are in lockdown. They are in the hatching tray in a cut egg carton. Hopefully this will help the little fuzz butts. Bummer is I have goose eggs in the same incubator that must be taken out 1x a day to cool. Ugh.

Today is day 18 for me and I have 86 eggs but I have seen no movement so far. I will report as the next 3 days evolve. Please keep me posted. I have them in 2 different incubators so it will be interesting to see the results. I only candled them at day9 and I dont really know what I am doing with candling. I have another 90 due in 10 days and another 90 due in 17 days.

That's a lot of fuzzy butts - I'll be happy if the ones I have left hatch - the waiting is killing me

Mind you the DH would probably move in with the dogs if there were that many chicks in the house...

I set my eggs on 2/27 and have my first pip today. There is a small whole forming at top of egg. I'm sure glad that I placed them in the egg carton last night. Yikes! I do not hear anything, or see any movement from the other eggs. This is the large Dickey cabinet incubator. I'm guessing I won't see much movement since they are in the egg carton. I read on here that it is easier for them to hatch in the carton as the egg will roll around throwing the chick off balance when egg is on flat surface. Makes sense to me as momma hen would keep egg from rolling.

My question is when do I remove chick from egg carton, or will it figure it out on it's own?

Oh my, I REALLY do not want to go to work now. I'm supposed to leave in an hour. Ugh!
