It could take up to 24 hours to hatch so I wouldnt take the day off ...........lol

Well, I know I'm not part of the 2/27 set anymore, but I wanted to wish all of you ladies good luck & happy hatching!
I guess me ordering my octagon 20 scared my home-made 'bator into holding a relatively stable temp. Today while I'm home waiting for the Sears delivery men, it's been between 99.5-99.9 degrees. I rearranged my eggs because two of my 3/6 (I think) are quiters. I think they were too close to the light & got too hot.

It's good that it is holding because I won more eggs:
6 black cochin bantams
& I have bid on 6 blue cochin bantams


My new incubator will be here on Monday!!! I'm so eggcited!

What flashlight does everyone use to candle? I keep hearing about a really good one from Lowes, but cannot figure out which one it is. I can see shapes really well with mine, but no black.

I had a temp spike last night. Thank goodness I checked before I went to bed!!! We had a sudden warming of weather (in the 70's) and I think going from really cold to warm messed it up. I adjusted the knob almost a whole turn and I was up until midnight making sure it came back within an acceptable range before going to bed. It's been stable all day. (phew)

Day 13 almost over.

Maybe you're not using the same one as I am - I was able to unscrew the top and pop the plastic lens right out!

I'm resisting the urge to try and candle my Cochin eggs - it's only Day 2!

I'm going to try and make it at least until Day 5 before I mess with them. I'll admit that I spent a good 10 minutes watching them slowly turn in the cradle this morning as I was getting dressed (I have the 'bators set up in the closet, were the temperature is warm and stable). It's hypnotizing!

It's a "guide'sman" but a different size. It's small. Maybe 4" tall.

I started lock down yesterday of course my hubby brought the light homw last night when I didn't need it lol. I checked on them this morning and no pips. Then went to check on them and some Quail in my kitchen and I thought I heard a pip and sure enough this is what I found.

and this, little hole/crack and movement on the left side. (have to see the larger pic of this one to see hole)


I don't have that many eggs just 8 so this is how I have them sitting

I know it's too late now, but are they ok like this the larger end is more in the air at a tilt.

I just checked on them again and there is a third one with a crack! How long does it take one to hatch, when sould I worry? I am so excited, called my DH and he says well help them get out lol.
