I thought chickens layed eggs at 6 months?

I have a white leghorn named Dove she is the sweetest chicken ever. That is a problem the rest of the leghorn flock picked her whole head bloody. Don't worry I fixed this by putting her with the silkys this was good until now. She is VERY protective over the nesting box there is only one. If I put her back with the leghorns they will kill her. Mama Greasy needs the nesting box to hatch the eggs. Is there any way I could protect her head?

Put something else in there and move the broody and eggs into it. It doesn't have to be fancy. Sit a milk crate on it's side, put some straw in there to create a nest and maybe hang a cloth halfway over the opening to add a bit of privacy. (Just an example. Anything similar should work.)

Can you add a second box?

No more room for any second box. Is there anything I could protect my chicken Dove's head with to where I can put her in the main Leghorn coop?

Would one of those little chicken helmets protect Dove's head or are they just some cheap little decorations that make your chicken look like they just got back from the racein track?

I have never heard of a chicken helmet so I have no idea lol

I probaly won't get a red one though. I had to cut off the feathers on doves taht that way I could treat the wounds. The feathers still haven't grown back.
