I TOOK MY SON TO COLLEGE... IT IS VERY HARD !!

Wow that is great, you really did some research and hard work to be able to cut your costs of an education. Scholarships are great, but you have to earn them too. That is what I kept telling my son last year and he was able to get a couple to help out. His tuition is pretty high as he is going to a Aeronautics University. The scholarships did not cover it all so we are doing some creative financing here. That is great that you will be an RA. Certainly would be worth the free housing. I am sure you folks are very proud of you for finding ways to cut costs. Heck, I am proud of you too!! Good luck to you, I know you will reach your goals and then some!

Last year my son, a high school freshman, came home to find me all teary-eyed. I had been watching an Oprah show about moms sending their kids off to college and was thinking "only a few more years and mine will be off to college" and was thinking about how sad that will be to not have him around. When he saw me, he asked why I had been crying, so I told him. "Oh my Gawd," he said, rolling his eyes. He then kicked off his shoes, dropped his backpack in the middle of the room, ransacked the kitchen, leaving dishes, glasses, food everywhere, went into his room and started blasting his music. I decided maybe his going off to college won't be such a bad thing. With luck, maybe he'll graduate from HS early!!

I'm liking these ideas! I just took my oldest (daughter) to Westmont in Santa Barbara--we live in the Denver area. I just sent my first care package: SKITTLES, candy bars, her water bottle filled with m&ms and an extra large beach towel (this she requested).

Life is tough in Santa Barbara--I'm hardly sad at all, but definitely jealous.

She's having a great time, and working harder than she expected to so soon. I may be too busy with two carpools and a German exchange student to grieve.

Wow, sounds like she is having fun. That's great! This has not been as bad as I expected, he is good at calling me, and we went to visit him last weekend. He is in Daytona Beach, FL, he hasn't told me any beach stories yet, but he did take his swimming trunks and beach towel with him when he went. He did surprise me when he called home and told me he got a job though. I was not too happy about that, I thought he should have waited a couple of months to see how things are with classes and homework/study. But, his Dad told me to let him try it and if it is too much, he can cut back on his work hours. So far, he says things are O.K. We will see. I am making up another care package as we speak, he really liked the one I took over there last weekend.
