I tried to candle my coturnix eggs.

Now im wondering if some of the ones i had in the incu that cracked and smelled were cracked in the first place? its got me thinking.

Possibly. Some will still hatch with small cracks. I've heard people using candle wax or Elmer's glue to seal cracks and had success too.

Hmmm, I candled when I first put them in, and then maybe on day 4.

And how did that go for you, see anything. I notice with buttons that day 3 I can see lots of veins and a heart already.

All I could see was a dark blob and then a lighter side. I'm not too worried about it but just wondered if people have had success with any certain light and cot eggs.

If your egg light up like a light bulb, its infertile! Sometime it has a green or blue color to it. They are bad!

I don't bother candling at day 5 anymore, just wait till day 8-10.

By day 10 the light shouldn't travel through the eggs, you will see a dark mass in there with some clear area, this is a good egg!

At 13-15 you shouldn't be able to see anything but the air sac!

Heres an observance of mine. I hand turn. When I turn an egg on a towel and it turns back on its own as it is heavier on one side. I am going with the thought there is a chick in there who does not wish to be disturbed. I am gaining confidence in my shipped eggs that the dingaling postman put on their side in the cold mailbox.

A small piece of cardboard with a small hole put over the end of a flashlight . at 10 days you should be able to see some dark areas and possibly some viening. I can see mine moving at 12 days
