I want a stand mixer... Advice and recommendations?

Kitchenaid unless you want to go even fancier/more expensive and get a scandanavian model. A viking? Maybe that's a sewing machine.

I second the bit about the tip up model. I have a crank up one and it has a bigger capacity than my first one, but it's harder to use.

KitchenAid that tips up, absolutely. Can't go wrong.

If I was stuck on a desert island and allowed to bring exactly three modern appliances with me, they would be

1. KitchenAid mixer
2. Dishwasher
3. Washing machine

In that order. I would eat off paper plates and wash my undies in shark-infested oceans before you could part me from that KitchenAid. Love it so much.

Handy safety tip, though: If you have long hair, be sure that it is in a bun or securely tied back before operating the KitchenAid mixer. Unlike cheesy, wussy little hand mixers, where you will merely get a lot of split ends and batter-dipped hair from a mix-up, the KitchenAid will do its best to scalp you. You will be lucky if all you lose is the hair tangled in it. No, it didn't happen to me, it happened to an incautious lady I used to work with.

Kitchenaid!!! I've had mine at least 15 years and it's still going strong. The only reason I would replace it anytime soon, would be to get the Kitchenaid bigger version since I use it to mix bread dough in all the time and then I could make a bigger batch.

Yep, KitchenAid! I was able to get mine as a used refurbished model over 20 years ago - a good deal at the time and worth every penny. I make bread with it almost every week, mix meatball and meatloaf recipes, make pound cakes, cookies, etc. And it is always out on my counter ready to go! It could cause me serious damage if I had to move that heavy sucker each time I wanted to use it. I asked my sons for the meat grinder attachment one Christmas and I love, love making my own sausage and grinding my own beef when a good sale is on.

Love my KitchenAide Artisan

I have to say she is absolutely right. I have had my kitchen aid for 10 years and it is still a beauty and runs awesome. I use it at least once a day and we even bought the grinder attachment to grind our venison into hamburger, worked like a charm!

Ha ha ha... I see I need to get the KitchenAid, and bigger is better.

I didn't think about the 20% off BB&B coupon. I get one of those every week, it seems. Hmm...

what size are you looking for?

for a kitchen model, the Kitchen aid is tops..

Hobart makes a nice commercial and semi commercial sized one..

Kitchenaid. I just got myself one for Christmas-- I had one a long time ago that I got for my first wedding (but lost it in a fire). My grandmother has had hers since I was a child. You can buy attachments to do ANYTHING!! They hold up well, do the job well-- I love them!
