I was just accused of being a thief!!!!

one of our branches of gas stations/convienant stores is sheetz and they have cracked down on gas stealing here about 2 mths ago since so many were doing it the last few years so they put a new system in.

at any of our sheetzes now u have to pay inside first or u don't pump cuz they don't turn them on inside. if u r useing a debit or credit card u have to have a sheetz gas card or u can't get gas there.

to get this gas card u have to give them ur drivers liceance to be ran through there machine inside, the gas card gets swept after it and ur id info goes on that gas card. when u use it u must swipe the gas card to register at the pump ur on. it records on there machine ur name addy, and driver liceance # ect. u pump then u pay with ur debit or credit card, if u don't pay they know who last used the pump and can go after u and procecute.

problem is u best not loose that gas card cause if someone else uses it it's ur prob not theirs. it has really cut down on people driveing off cuz they really can't now between that and all the cams watching but if someone gets ur card and does that u r still responsible for it.

the other ones here all have prepay inside only first or some r after a certain time a day must prepay inside towards the more night hours but daytime is open pay at pumps.

They should fire that employee for three reasons
1. The way she treated you, a customer
2.The way she reacted to the manager's instruction
3. Failing to understand how the basic equipment of her job worked. She made the mistake, not the machine.

Sorry you had to go through this. My prediction, she won't have the job long. People who react to their bosses that way are seldom welcome to stay.

Well, I just spoke to the operation manager for the gas stations (they have about 40 stations). He was appalled by what happened and apologized. There is no telling how many times the cashier has done this. He said that they spend a lot of money trying to keep customers and won't tolerate that type of behavior. I have no idea how they will deal with that person, but she is dishonest, rude and incompetent. That can't be good for business.

It'll be just my luck that they fire the goof, and she will vandalize my house.

See in my warped mind, I would almost want her to retaliate, then she would be looking at possible jail time.....on top of losing a job

I have worked Customer Service my entire life and she should be fired. As tough as the economy is today, businesses should be bending over backwards to keep customers. With people like this apparently incompetent boob, they will certainly lose more customers than they need to. Also, if she is trying to pull a scam then they certainly need to get rid of her.

Is that even legal? Doesn't there have to be a disclaimer or warning or something before they put a HOLD on your funds? When you rent a car you have to sign papers and in the fine print it states that there will be a hold on funds. When you book reservations at a hotel they tell you that your card will be charged that fee to reserve the room....seems fishy that this gas station just DOES it without warning...I think I might look in to it.

I recently moved here from Florida. I don't know if it is legal, but most of the stations where I lived did that. I don't think they held it quite that long though.

Holy cow! What a nut. I would certainly hope that she hadn't graduated yet and that the owner/manager has enough common sense to fire her. Is it just me or does anyone else find it sad that people can't add 2 and 2 anymore? Her lights most definitely weren't all on upstairs. Don't worry Jody. She was the one who walked away looking like a behind in the end.

Haven't any of you ever worked in that kind of situation? Getting paid minnimum wage waiting for someone to come along and steal gas so that you can get fired and not be able to feed your kids? Things happen. Granted, it wasn't handled well by the clerk, but if you've been going there for fifteen years you've noticed the turnover rate. Those clerks usually get fired and have to pay for the gas other people steal out of their last check.
Go in, re-introduce yourself to the clerk at a non-stress time, give her the chance to appoligize, and accept it. Gratiously. If she's still there.

Leah-yes I know I'm crazy :

No, I have not worked in a gas station, but yes, I have worked in customer service and that is not anyway to treat a customer. I don't care who you are or what the situation is. If you ask me, that's a good way for that cashier to get shot! I understand that there are people out there that need their jobs to feed their kids, but in my opinion that is all the more reason to be polite to the customers. If she thought there was a situation where Jody was stealing gas, then she needed to go the the manager and let them handle it. There is no sense in making a customer embarrassed and feel like an idiot. None at all.

Apparently the police recently found a van that was kitted out to steal gas.
