I would appreciate your opinions on incubators

I'm quite happy with my Brinsea Maxi II Advantage. It has a temperature digital read out and will roll the eggs on a set time from 30 min to 1 hour. The only thing missing is a humidity read out and I put a small humidity gauge inside. It works well. I've hatched two flocks with this! I've got 15 eggs in it now.

I use a Little Giant still air incubator with an automatic turner.
It works perfect for me.

I had so much trouble with my hova bator and that manual thermostat. That's the main thing.

You can't trust a built-in thermometer...no matter what.

If you get a separately purchased thermometer or three and calibrate them you can tune your thermostat in to the right temperature.

If you're prepared to go analogue a small hen should work well. You wouldn't have to build it either.

I personally use a janoel 12. The temp is relatively accurate but the humidity is hard to regulate because you just pour water in the bottom and hope for the best so it requires hydrometers in it. Still, it works for the small amount of hatching we do.

Another Brinsea user here. Really love their product so far. (But Im using a cabinet incubator) Not sure if their tabletops are any different..

As another user already said, most incubators do their job as long as you can trust any thermal/hydro sensors you have in place and know that the bator can hold said temp or humidity. I do recommend a separate thermo/hydrometer other than your bators to double check. My first incubator was a yellow top incubator, and was sorta cheap. It was able to hatch eggs, but the meters were off a tad and it had a hard time holding its temp. Thus, only ever had a 1/3 success rate with my hatches. Maybe 1/2 once... Wish i could offer more advice, but these are the only two i have had experience with. Only issue with brinsea, is they have a high dollar sign... But for me, it's been worth it. Depends on how much you want to incubate and hatch chicks?
