Lisa - do they have a spot on their head?
I hope they are both pullets for you! If they have the "barring" spot though you are out of luck...

Hi everyone

The 2 black peeps are solid black with a little light yellow under there chin and on the bottem of there wings. there tummy is light yellow. So what do you think.? I had no idea that you could tell so soon. I want to send a picture. I clicked on img tag but could not figure out what to do next . Sorry so dumb. I dont know the deference between a link or a web sight.

If any of you live near Greenfield, I teach a needle work class for 10 years old and up. Every tuesday at 4 at the Greenfield library. The class is free and we have all kinds of suplys to help someone get started and they are free also. We do every kind of needle work it is a lot of fun. One of my yong students is makeing barbbe doll clothes, with out a patern!!!
Also I would travel out to other places in IA to help people get started in crocheting or knit ect.

Those chicks could go either way - depends on who the mama was. With birds that are barred though if you cross a barred hen with a non-barred rooster of any kind the female chicks will be all black and the male chicks will be barred. I only have two hens that are barred (and no barred roosters) so anytime I hatch a barred chick I know 100% it will be a boy.

I get lots of solid black chicks though so not knowing who the mom is, it could be boy or girl. Does either one have chubby cheeks?

Stephanie;

Got registration forms sent in for the fair, Whitey is one of the entries it would be nice if he and Princess could be side by side and maybe they can be!

Also got a room for 3 or 4 nights it will take 20 min. to get to the fair each day but thats all right, got a place that should keep the boys entertained as well. Lora starts school the day after we get back. The boys are looking forward to the rides, Lora is looking forward to the donuts and I am not looking forward to the crowds! I only hope the weather is nice.

Was someone on here looking for a source for Lavendar bantam, Ameracauna eggs? A friend of mine sold me six to hatch and she probably has more if someone is looking, PM me.

I need to get that done tomorrow apparently... I wasn't sure what to put for a leg band?

BTW you're on my turf now. MUHAHAHA I am always 20 minutes from the fairgrounds. Did you get a room at Adventureland Inn?

You can put down a number then order the legbands and put one on her before the show. Order the #7 size from Cutler Supply unless there is somewhere in Des Moines that sells them or, I can give you one you can put it on her leg. I have a bunch of new ones.

I thought about staying, (uninvited of course), at your house but realized two things... 1. the boys would drive you up a tree and 2. I don't know where you live other than by the airport! LOL I can't remember the name of the hotel, I think it's Stonebridge or something in Ankeny? It's like a Lodge. Have stayed at the one in La Crosse a couple times and I got them down on the rate so it was a no-brainer. It has one of those pools you can swim outside from the inside. It is mandatory with children, must have pool and spa. Sure seems like I sent them a ton of money! Parking fees and unloading fees etc. It'll be a 4 night stay for us. And will have to purchase ride tickets on top of that too!

By then my litter of puppies (due any day now) would be almost 1 month old - so that might entertain the boys. Plus I could just have them clean house for me. Mow the yard, etc. I would invite you to stay here but my house is really small. I think the chickens have more space.

We might have to do a BBQ or something though - chicken of course

Heck if anyone else is in town for the fair maybe we can all get together for a BBQ.

One of the EE's started crowing this morning. Actually a very pretty crow - not that scratchy crow they normally start with.

Ok I guess I will go fill out the paper work for entering the Princess now.

Princess is officially entered and I also entered one of the blue ameraucana cockerals. Now they just need to grow their tails out

It was only an extra $1.25 to enter him so I figured why not? I hope he is old enough by the time the fair is here - should be about 15-16 weeks old.

Alas tragedy struck yesterday. My favorite Cochin pullet attempted to lay her first egg yesterday, but prolapsed instead. In panic I called Trish and attempted the remedy she suggested, but we couldn't get it fixed. Finally I took her alternate advice and put her down. Instead of enjoying my first egg I butchered my first chicken instead.

Thanks Trish for your help. At least we proved I can accomplish tough love when I have too.
