These two are from the same hatch, I am hoping that since the one isn't bleeding red through the shoulders that it is a pullet...

I love my EE's! This is my favorite pullet - she looks like a hawk and coos at me like a dove! What do you call this color?

Mine are flighty but that is because of the broody who raised them taught them to be wild...

Odd thing is, she is really tame herself

I also got pretty much all roosters.

I think I got 1 but she sure is "purty" and the calmest of the bunch. I go out in the dark and pet them trying to calm them down. It is the only way I can catch them without chasing them down and using a net. I think chasing them makes the flightiness worse. With all but one, once I catch them they are fine. The one blue cockeral screams like I'm about to eat him. Maybe he knows something...

Hope everyone stays cool today. I'm going to be checking on the critters more often today trying to keep them as cool as possible. I'm thinking we may skip the Farmer's Market tonight.

Ragbrai starts this week, Wed they will be coming to Chuck town. It is so fun I leave home at 6 am and get home in the evening and our town has tripled in size. This is their 3rd time going through.

Not really chicken related but it good fun.

Hi Guys!

I haven't checked in here before but we live in Brooklyn, Iowa, about half way between Des Moines and Iowa City.

Anyway, the reason I am writing is to try to re-home to a GOOD home our 17 week old Welsummer roo. He is from Estes Hatchery and is shaping up to be very beautiful. However, he does not like kids. You may have read the post....something about 16 week old rooster attacks daughter.

He has NEVER approached me (chicken keeper) and I really honestly believe that his bad temper is the result of bad flock management. We rarely handled him (as per instructions re roos) and my kids continually mess with his flock. He is hard to catch to do all the rooster training stuff on. I think what he really needs is a little kindness and some treats. Not chasing around with a stick. He seems to be fine with the hens although he makes the treat call when there are no treats just to get everyone to come running. I've been trying to be nice to him lately (rather than just ignore him, and he is coming closer now)

I would like to see him go to a good home WITHOUT kids. One that would be willing to send us photos once in awhile and maybe a few eggs once we get a broody if you have some welsummer hens.

I don't know how he conforms to the standard. The only thing I know that he should have is five points on his comb which he does. he really is very handsome. I would be MORE than happy to post pics.

His name is Doodle. (but you could change it

PM me please for any takers!!!!

Welsummers are a breed I want to start but I am not in a position right now to take your roo. I also have grandkids around so maybe not such a good idea. I hope you find a good home for him.
