where is "here"?
I am looking for a black silkie hen...

Sorry I did not see this. She had them alright. Will see her again in a couple weeks. She does get 40.00 a bird but maybe less too. If you'd like her email I can provide you with it. SQ stock.

I picked up a beautiful little Salmon Favorelle from her as well and she has some pairs that are just now laying for sale as well.
She gifted me with an egg on the way home!

Well Eric - I got the baby chicks today - they are soooo sweet. I need to look back and see how old they are. Also got a couple of laying hens at the auction. I didn't realize at the time but they are de-beaked. Poor babies. Of course Mike being himself just threw them in with the flock after I specifically said I wanted to put them in their own coop for awhile. We just wanted some hens that would lay consistently until my young birds get older and lay. I sold my two gold comets I had, but they were "bad" (as in naughty) birds. Hopefully these two will be good replacement. They seem to like the idea of freedom. They were most certainly some factory farms culls. There were a ton of them and most went in lots of 15-20. Too many for me.

Anywho - I will catch up with you at Iowa City Eric.

Steph... the Blues were hatched on the 15th and 22nd of Sept. Exactly one week apart.

thats the problem with auctions, the birds are not usually clean nor, of good quality. Ya know, I have never seen a debeaked bird. I would not know what they look like!

Maybe you should get some orps? had to blood test a LF orp and it was like wrestling a 400 lb hog! Actually, they are very gentle but big!

Did not sell any of my Buttercup chicks in New Ulm. Hutchinson is the 22nd so will take them then. Have another 8 bantam orloffs due on Tues.

I felt sorry for some of the exhibitors in New Ulm, heat stress killed a couple of show birds and sale birds while in transit.

Eric - I will get a close up picture of them for you. I think it's horrific. They are just red-sex link hens. They are nice to me but my hens have not taken a shining to them. My big rooster Tank has though.

He misses "The Jennys" as we called my other two gold comets.

I showed Mike a picture of the Iowa Blues in my Storey's guide and he said he might just build them their own run. Thought they were real pretty. That is the first time he has offered to build a run for the chickens.

I got 11 production red hens today at an auction. Like Stephanie said they are debecked. I was afraid that I had been ripped off. That the hens were older than 18 months. But they have layed 7 eggs this afternoon. Not to bad , I just need some layers to get me by until my pulets start to lay.

I realy enjoyed the auction I had never been to one with animals. I could do that every day. It was very exciting.

I liked getting to visit with Steph. I was not good company. I was very tierd. I have to lay down everyday, even if I do not want to.

I am going to butcher some roos this week. If anyone wants to learn how, just let me know you would be welcom to come by and watch. ( hands on )

I am planing to hatch chicks all winter long if anyone wants some let me know.

I would like to buy a white rock roo..........

everyone have a god week lisa i need a tierd smily face haha

Lisa - mine didn't know how to go in a coop

I put them in there and when I left they were sqwaking up a storm. The dark scared them.

Oh and don't let Lisa fool you - she was fine company! Her husband is very nice too!

I think Mike might be getting into this a bit. He said you did a good job with Charming and now maybe build a coop for the Blues...?? Are you gonna have him build one like you saw for the Serama?

Eric - I had to stop him from bidding on a goat yesterday. We NEED and acerage. We left the auction and he said thank goodness because the rest of the goats were coming up soon.
