IA here

Hi Guys and Gals,

I bought a house near Milo back in the fall and moved up to IA from Louisiana. We have an old building on out place that seems to be a corn crib but has solid walls. Are they usually portable? We do not have those in Louisiana. I would like to make it into my coop but it needs some work first. Anyone on here close to Milo?

Can you post a picture of it?

Hi Rgoodwin!

Welcome to Iowa!! I live just south of you near Lucas.

Most wood corn cribs are not moveable if you are sure that is what it is. Usually they have slatted sides with spaces of one to two inches between the boards. You could always take it down and reuse the boards to make a coop where you want it.

I swear the weather here will get better and our heat and humidity are nothing compared to Louisiana.

I currently live in Ames but I'm thinking of moving to bondurant but don't want to move there if I can't have my birds. Does anyone know if you can in bondurant or not?

I will post pictures when i get some. it does not have slats with spaces between them. It has solid inner and outer walls with large square doors on the roof and large X braces inside.

I am so heartbroken about our chicken order. They hatched on Mon, but 2 of the chicks didn't hatch out (blue orp and partridge penedesenca). They called in the afternoon about subs, and we chose 2 black austrolorps. The next day they shipped out at 4 pm, but for some reason were shipped Priority Mail instead of Express Mail. They were just coming from Ohio to Iowa, so I was hopeful they'd make it in time. I called to ask why they weren't shipped Express and was given the runaround.

The chicks didn't arrive at our po until Friday morning, and none of them made it, I didn't figure any would at that point. :( I called and got a full refund, and was told that 89 (89!) other orders went out priority mail by accident but that mine was the only one she'd heard of that took until Friday to get there, and that if they'd arrived Thursday they probably would have been okay.

So after that we drove to a hatchery a couple of hours away and picked out some beautiful chicks. 3 Buff Orpingtons, 3 Mille Fleurs, 4 Easter Eggers and 9 Silkies (2 blacks, 2 whites, 1 calico, 1 partridge, 1 blue, 1 splash, 1 grey). They are so pretty! My girls are in 7th Heaven. :)

Oh, so sad. That's why I'm afraid to ship my chicks. Glad you got some new babies though!

x2 that is so sad. I found the PO are really slow lately even with just letters.

I see all the farm stores are getting their chicks in now.

I was at shoppers supply today and picked up an LG egg turner, but it doesn't fit my quail racks that I already have. I guess my other turner is a hovabator one so does anyone know where I can get a hovabator turner 1611 I think is the model number around here that's less then $40?
