IA here

I agree about the healing time. His son wanted to get him one right away and I told him no. We needed time, and his dad especially needed that time. To further make this sad, 10 years ago today they had a fire and destroyed everything and they lost a family cat in the fire. So now the dog died on the same date as the fire and the other pet dying is really tough.

Steph, Gary Underwood is the guy I got my RIR's from. His dad started raising them, and this line has been in his family for 10 years. They are awesome birds. Friendly little puppy dogs, gordeous mahogany color, bright yellow legs.

He's a great guy. I met him when I bought his old incubator from him. He lives in Illinois.

I can come help you clean yours. Are we talking house or chickens. You are not to far.

My dum dog went out this morning at about 3.30 She opened the back door wich leads into the basement. All that nice cold air came blowing in. The bator temp drop down to 92%. What do you think?

I have to go help my Aunt clean her house, who will help me clean mine? poofy???

Your not mad at me for changing out the IA blues?

** it should be ok. The temp dip may delay your hatch for a day or two though. I would be more worried about a temp spike than a temp dip for that lasts for less than 6 hours.

No fair - Gary never calls me! Who's Gary??

Now that I look one of the chicks has a white eyebrow. Might just be chick feed dust though...

Eric I am also checking into some serama eggs from bluegrass seramas.

How is P and her eggs? No prob with the number Trish, glad to help out and yes, he seems like a really nice guy.

Gary said he would not be in Iowa City but he will be in Hutch. I think it's possible he is bringing some chicks for me to peruse? Gary is a VIP Steph and we are not allowed to discuss him with people with eggs under their skin!

But seriously, recover quick and don't twist your neck too much!

The last time I had a subascious cyst removed, from the middle of my back, one of the old retired Drs. filled in for my normal Dr. This old doc and I had shared cocktails (only a few times) after golf, and when I made the appointment, I was told that Dr. R was filling in for Dr. F while he was on vacation and was asked if that was okay? I said yes, as long as he's sober.
Well, during this minor, in office surgery, (the thing was about 6" long), Dr. R asked me how my Mom was doing etc., my Mom was an LPN for years at the hospital here, she delivered most of the babies in this county. He noticed that after awhile I was begining to chew up the head rest on the exam table and asked if I was feeling it a bit and I, in a trembling voice, said "yyyeeesss", to which Dr. R. replied, and I will never forget this, "Thats okay, we only have six more stitiches to go, you can get through it"! And I did but still shudder when I think of it!
This is not intended to discourage you but, encourage rapid healing!

I think I know where the white went on the Blues... One of my nearly month old Orloff chicks apperas to be nearly albino! Hope this is not a trend and he reddens up....

I concur. They are tougher than we give them credit for. We have all seen an egg just slightly away from the broody that has hatched.

It was a rough night last night! I got home with my new chicks from FlashPointFarms and loaded them into their toasty warm brooder and all seemed well until about 10:30. Then the power went out in the whole neighbor hood! I ran out, gathered up the shivering chicks, rushed them into the house in a cat carrier covered with blankets. I don't know how much they were at risk but I was trying to decide if I could put them in my lap and not crush them in my sleep when the power came finally back on! That was one time I was wishing for a couple more broody hens! I had one available and I did give her a couple to see if she was ready to be a mama, but I think 24 would be a bit of a shock to her.

Anyway, they were bebopping around this morning, so I guess all is well. Trish, thanks SO much for the lovely chicks and the time you spent with me last night. I always learn so much from you! I'm feeling a little nervous about tripling my population all at once, but I somehow I still have room for the Iowa Blues!

Ack! They are tough. I've seen chicks live through being shipped through the post office in 20 degree weather. They should be fine. Temp drops and stress can cause pasty butt. If you see that, use Merrick's Blue Ribbon Poultry vitamins. It's got electrolytes, a good balance of vitamins and probiotics in it. I usually keep this on hand, and just give it to my flocks for an extra boost. 3/4 tsp per gallon. I don't measure it out though, just pour a little into the water containers. You can find this at Theison's, where they keep the probiotics, bovine wormers, antibiotics, etc. It's really cheap too.

And you're welcome. It's always fun showing off my birds. I loved the look on your face when you saw Sampson!

Ok Lisa - I meant come clean house - but I can handle it. We are down to just the puppy we are keeping plus one other - so cleaning isn't such a chore now!

After all that talk we had about butchering stuff at the auction, I dreamed that night that the puppies were kittens and we took them to a restaurant and had them for dinner. Then in my dream I felt terrible all night for eating such cute little creatures. I don't think I'm ready for rabbits EVER.

I had to give Tucker extra kisses all day on Monday for having such a nasty dream about him.

P's last two eggs are duds too, but I have some in the bator due Monday that look fabulous so am going to give her a couple of those this weekend to hatch. I think 2 standard size chicks will be plenty for her to raise.

Karim - glad your chicks made it. The most I've had a broody do was 10 chicks (my husband wanted to see how many he could stuff under her

) But she was a big black copper maran mama.
