Eric, that picture of a hen dust bathing in a frying pan cracks me up!

No big hurry,she just wonders around the yard like she's a big chicken.she sleeps with the big chickens also.i have all my bantie's caged and all paired up so she is the only little chicken that doesn't have a boyfriend.i would trade for something if you want to.Mike

It's actually good timing. her mom is hardly laying any more. They do that as they get older. she almost looks like a New Hampshire but, I know exactly what she is!

Here's her mother when she was just a start, having a dust bath.

Thats what i thought she looked like was a NH,is that a Lakenvelder in the bottom of the picture?i need a silver rooster if you run across one.

That was out 1st Vorwerk roo, Tall Man. I named him that cause the only other roo we had at that time was Curly, a Serama, and he was taller than Curly! They are really beautiful birds. I do have a pair again but they are not as friendly as my first ones. The females are very curious birds, have to know whats going on everywhere and what you are doing. They are also very chatty and really like to let you know when it's time to lay an egg. Seems like they blame it on you!

I still have that frying pan or skillet, it;s about 2 feet across. It's huge. I dug some black dirt out of the yard, dried it and mixed in some sevin dust and hung a heat lamp over it. The little specks you see are corn I tossed in to entice them. It worked. After a while I just got ther bucket of dirt out and they would stand in line and wait for me to get it set up. It was chicken spa time!

Steph;
that picture of you and bro. on horse must have been taken what... 3 or 4 yrs. ago? You've hardly changed!

i need a pan that size just to cook for my kids. not that stove tops are made for it.

I'm raising and stashing $ for waverly i think son is going to pull 'that would be great for fair' and since we don't have alot of full gown birds that are looking show worthy i might try a bunch of dif breeds out. oh and duck we are getting ducks. hmmm maybe hubby will have to work that weekend.

ok enough plotting.

anyone have a clue what this chick might be. i was thinking RIR before the speckling started. yellow legs, single comb.

That made me giggle, Sam!

That chick looks like a Welsummer to me, could it be? They have yellow legs, straight comb and are marked like chipmunks. Let me see if I have a pic of some of my Wellie hatchlings on file to compare. I'll post it for you.

Yay I'm sure it's a roo kids picked them out of 'frying pan special' bin at feed store so it could be anything.
Thanks I don't have 1 of those. It has a bad eye and gets excited and runs in circles makes me giggle.
Loki will eat it. Stupid dog is trying to climb his fence time to hot wire it again.
