Icelandic Chickens

Yes, three are very similiar, but then you have the marvelous Diablo with his striking mottling and I have Dreki, the dragon, with his blue and "flame" finery............they are, after all, from the same family tree!!

Gorgeous boys Other Mary.

Sheriff Mary and I have talked often about how (for the most part) the patterns are very similar. Then every once in a while a new color pops out and WOW!

Wow !

What beautiful eye candy to start the day with !

I am going to be keeping 3 Roosters, sadly Isi with his very large Single Comb isnt matched to this climate. He is so beautiful though and such an excellent flock master. I am keeping Blau, with his own harem, and the new Fab Feathered One, plus Bjorn the Black Breasted Duck Wing who is the growthiest of his june hatch from Mary. Each rooster is going to have their own flock, I will add several of the crested hens to the new flock. Blau will get The Contessa, and Blue, and one lighter wheaten with some blue. This will leave me with two crested roosters, the new guy is also a Single Comb, I am hoping its a small one else he will have just one season with us.

5F here this morn, will be watching Isi very closely today.

Hi Kelly

a little color matching, but each rooster will also have a pullet lighter or darker then he. Blau is the same pattern as Bjorn, except that in Blau the black is expressed as blue, but both will pass on the same pattern. The 'Fab' cockeral I dont know what he will be yet, at the moment, literally, he is white, but I can count on one hand all of the whites I have seen so far in my vast inexperience.

I am hoping to get chicks all across the color spectrum, but, eventually I would like eventually the majority to be crested and featherlegged as I am thinking that this will help their cold tolerance, likewise if I have two roosters and one has a smaller comb then another I will go with the smaller comb, if all else is equal which it hardly ever is. If any cushion combs show up they will get a chance.

It was -5 this morning, I misread the thermometer, it said 5 but I glanced and thought it was +5.

Isi has a new little burnt spot on another tip, it shows up more then the partially healed ones.

He needs a milder home.

Has anyone heard from Michelle? I have been wondering how hers are doing up there.

Tis the season ya'll, have a wonderful set of holidays !

I just saw a wonderful quote and had to share:

"People who count their chickens before they are hatched act very wisely, because chickens run about so absurdly that it is impossible to count them accurately"

I'm just wondering how many chicks Laree and I will get next week!!! Can't wait!

Monday I'm putting the waterer and feeder in the dishwasher to clean and then I'll be setting up the ecoglow in the box that will go into my Laree brooder... I just remembered I forgot to buy the extension cord today! so..... Tomorrow.
